Malaysian Dialysis and Transplant Registry Report

Abstract: This report summarizes data for dialysis and transplant patients up to the end of 1995. We estimate coverage to be about 30% of dialysis patients and near complete ascertainment of transplant patients. On the 31 December 1995, there were 2224 patients on renal replacement therapy (RRT), comprising 50% on haemodialysis (HD), 12% on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and 38% with functioning transplants. The prevalence rate for dialysis was 68 per million population (p.m.p.) and that of transplant … Show more

“…It has been estimated that more than 700,000 Americans have ESRD [2]. In Malaysia, increase in ESRD was largely driven by the increasing incidence of diabetic kidney disease accounting for 58% of new patients accepted for dialysis [3]. Similarly, CKD is rapidly growing in Pakistan due to increasing number of patients with diabetes and high blood pressure, late diagnosis, and high volume of kidney stone disease leading to death of about 20,000 Pakistanis every year [4].…”

“…The cost of dialysis therapy can be prohibitively expensive especially for those who are of poor socioeconomic status. Only 22% of the 25,688 dialysis patients in 2011 are capable of self‐funding . The remaining 78% obtain financial assistance either from the government, social security organization, religious, or charity groups.…”

“…This rationale assumes QOL has a close relationship with morbidity and mortality . The use of Spitzer's Quality of Life Index Score by the Malaysian National Renal Registry (NRR) for annual reporting has its deficiencies as this instrument was hampered by poor discriminatory ability…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] Although arterial hypertension is such an important disease, and although China is the largest nation, relatively little has been known about the prevalence and the associated factors of arterial hypertension in the Chinese population. 6,[8][9][10][11][12][13] In a previous investigation, Gu and colleagues from the International Collaborative Study of Cardiovascular Disease in ASIA found a prevalence of arterial hypertension of about 27% for the adult Chinese population with an age of 35+ years.…”
