Malignant ameloblastoma or ameloblastic carcinoma

Abstract: By dividing a Dutch reference collection into two subsamples of different ages, remarkable differences were found in the suture closure process in these subsamples. Spearman rank correlations demonstrated that mean endocranial closure stage is correlated (P < 0.001) with age in the ages below fifty but not in tEe ages above fifty. In the latter ages the closure stage of individual suture sections showed positive as well as negative correlations (0'001 ~< P < 0.05) with age at death. Therefore two different sut… Show more

“…Although ameloblastic carcinoma was recognized very early by others [3][4][5] , the World Health Organization (who) classifications of 1971 6 and 1992 7 did not include the term in the section on odontogenic Current OnCOlOgy-VOlume 17, number 5 seen in the submandibular region 4-5 cm from the midline on the left side of the chin. The swelling was non-tender, variable in consistency, nonfluctuant, non-compressible, and fixed to underlying structures.…”

“…To our knowledge, only 6 cases of ameloblastic carcinoma with spindle-cell histology have been published 4,[9][10][11] , and of those, only 2 were diagnosed as spindle-cell ameloblastic carcinoma 12,13 . This third published case appears to be the first spindlecell ameloblastic carcinoma arising in a pre-existing unicystic ameloblastoma.…”

“…Slootweg and Muller [1] subclassifed odontogenic carcinomas into three categories as they felt that these tumours exhibit considerable differences in biological behaviour and histomorphology. The sub-classification is as follows: Type 1.…”

“…In 1971, the term 'primary intraosseous carcinoma' (PIOC) was introduced (5). Elzay (6) reviewed the relevant literature associated with PIOC of the jaw and suggested an alteration to the World Health Organization (WHO) classification to include 'ameloblastic carcinoma', which was later modified to account for potential etiological factors (7). Intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma was also later included as an additional form of PIOC (8).…”
