“…Light microscope studies have led to the view that all NPCs should be regarded as squamous cell carcinomas (New and Kirch, 1928;Hauser and Brownell, 1938;Tech, 1957;Yeh, 1962;) and this has been further supported by electron microscope studies (Svoboda et al, 1965(Svoboda et al, , 1967Lin et al, 1969;Gazzolo etal., 1972;Shanmugaratnam, 1972;Prasad, 1974) which showed the presence of desmosomes between adjacent tumor cells, and tonofibrils and keratin-like structures within the cytoplasm of tumor cells from different types ofNPC.
