Mammographic diagnosis of minimal breast cancer

Abstract: The conventionally utilized mammographic signs of carcinoma only occasionally are indicative of minimal breast cancer. A new sign is described, which consists of the appearance of a new density in serial examinations. Of 30 patients who have exhibited this sign and who have had a biopsy, all have had either carcinoma or duct hyperplasia of borderline nature. Early mammographic examination is important in establishing a baseline against which subsequent studies can be compared.
