Management Driven Structured Reporting in Ovarian Cancer

Abstract: Since majority (80%) of ovarian cancer patients present at an advanced stage, imaging performed on these patients have numerous findings. The combination of multiple findings on imaging, complexity of anatomical structures which are involved in ovarian cancer, and the need to perceive certain subtle imaging features which would impact management often makes it challenging to systematically review images of these patients. Similarly, it is difficult to effectively communicate these findings in radiology reports… Show more

“…Tumors above the dentate line drain into the perirectal and internal iliac nodes, whereas tumors below the dentate line and the anal margin drain into the inguinal and femoral lymph nodes. 4 Deep to the anal canal mucosa is the submucosa followed by two muscular layers, namely, the internal anal sphincter (IAS) and the external anal sphincter (EAS). The IAS is an involuntary muscle that is the thickened extension of the circular smooth muscle layer of the rectum.…”

“…Chandramohan et al evaluate a very practical scenario faced by many radiologists reporting an MRI of a rectal mass when the pathology is unknown; should we use the rectal template for adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma, as they compare the findings in the two pathologies. 6 One of the reasons for launching the JGAR was to generate India-specific data rather than rely on data from the West or the East. Choudhury et al do precisely that as they describe ultrasound shear wave elastography of normal pancreas in adult subjects in their prospective study.…”

“…The review article on management-driven structured reporting in ovarian cancer by Chandramohan et al 5 is the need of the hour, highlighting the imaging details required for clinical decision-making and thus helping oncogynecologists decide the management of the patient afflicted with ovarian cancer.…”
