Management of the soft tissue extremity degloving injuries with the full-thickness grafts obtained from the avulsed flap

Abstract: BACKGROUND: A "degloving injury" is referred to as seperation of cutaneous tissue from the deeper structures of the body. Although many methods have been defined to reform the tissue integrity; defatting and readaptation of the avulsed flap still comprises one of the most effective methods.

“…In this case, we employed a novel approach using amniotic liquid allografts to promote wound healing, and the patient demonstrated remarkable progress throughout the course of treatment. Preservation of skin tissue and subsequent skin grafting is very important in the treatment of these patients [8], but due to the variable clinical presentation, there is no single line of treatment that is conducted with every patient undergoing a degloving treatment [9]. However, a general guideline of debridement and closure is generally followed.…”

“…Free tissue transfer, such as the latissimus dorsi or anterolateral thigh flap, provides well vascularised, pliable tissue; however, the extent of the injury can make successful anastomosis away from the zone of trauma challenging. Alternatively, defatting and subsequent replacement of the avulsed skin to the underlying wound bed, as a full thickness skin graft from the degloved skin has been reported [6].…”
