“…Encouragingly, CPB appear to be amenable to improvement via intervention. For example, structured family therapy (SFT), by increasing caregivers' feelings of support and self-efficacy, and their use of proactive coping skills, was effective for reducing problematic behaviours in children with ASD (Brockman et al, 2016). Parent skills training (PST), in which caregivers are taught, with clinical guidance, to recognise antecedents of CPB, was also found to be advantageous for reducing CPB and, in turn, improving caregivers' psychological well-being (Feldman & Werner, 2002).…”

“…A growing body of strength‐based research highlights the need for relational interventions that build on families’ strengths to enhance coping, efficacy, and well‐being among families affected by ASD (Marciano, Drasgow, & Carlson, 2015; Sim, Cordier, Vaz, & Falkmer, 2019). Solution‐Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a clinical approach that is increasingly being used by clinicians to address the need for collaborative, relational interventions among families of children with ASD (Brockman, Hussain, Sanchez, & Turns, 2016; Finlayson, Turns, & Smock Jordan, 2019; Smock Jordan & Turns, 2016). This article provides a case presentation using a solution‐focused approach to demonstrate our proposed adaptations that are informed by the extant literature on the unique challenges and inherent resources of families affected by ASD.…”
