Managing Patients with Cutaneous B-Cell and T-Cell Lymphomas Other Than Mycosis Fungoides

Abstract: Cutaneous lymphomas (CL) are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms characterized with clinical and histopathological variation, as well as overlap with benign dermatoses. Diagnosis and treatment of CLs is challenging and often requires a multi-disciplinary approach. However, prognostic knowledge of these conditions and awareness of treatment options can help optimize appropriate use of available regimens, thereby improving care for patients. Here we review the most recent literature and outline treatment themes f… Show more

“…Cutaneous lymphomas (CL) are a heterogeneous group of lymphomas that present in the skin. The two main types of CLs are cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) and cutaneous B-cell lymphomas (116). CTCL is much more common than cutaneous B-cell lymphomas, with Mycosis Fungoides (MF) and Sezary (117).…”

“…Table 1: Recommendations for the treatment of primary cutaneous follicle center lymphoma [18] CBCL Primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoma [19] Radiation therapy (RT), curative surgery, and sometimes antibiotics are all viable options for patients with localized or locally-confined disease. Those with PCMZL may experience higher relapse rates after targeted treatment than those with PCFCL.…”

“…Table 2: Recommendations for the treatment of primary cutaneous marginal zone lymphoma [19] CBCL Primary cutaneous diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, legtype [20] Relapses in the skin are common, and PCDLBCL-LT often spreads quickly. First-line therapy for isolated, regional, or systemic illness is radiotherapy (RT) alone or in conjunction with R-CHOP.…”

“…Treatment of Cancer and International Society for Cutaneous Lymphoma do not mention intralesional corticosteroids in the treatment of PCMZL, even though there have been a few reports, including ours, of successful treatment with intralesional steroids. 5,9,10,11 We propose that close monitoring with intralesional steroid injection of new lesions may be an effective and well-tolerated way to treat chronic PCMZL, and that larger controlled trials of this therapy should be encouraged.…”
