Managing the Horizon-Oriented in-Situ Leaching for the Uranium Deposits of Mongolia

Oleh Khomenko,
Dmytro Rudakov,
Tsandgjav Lkhagva
et al.

Abstract: This paper summarizes the results of evaluating uranium in-situ leaching (ISL) parameters for hydrogenous deposits in eastern Mongolia. This method, also known as in-situ recovery (ISR) or solution mining was proposed for mining used to extract uranium from underground deposits without physically removing the ore. The studies included drilling, geophysical surveying, evaluations of rock properties and chemical composition of rocks and groundwater, as well as modelling coupled flow and transport for the “Ul’zit… Show more

“…Despite the development of mathematical and computer technologies, there is a limited number of software products that can simulate the explosion process with high accuracy. The leaders in this area are the software products SolidWorks [24] and ANSYS [25], which use FEM and are widely used in mining to simulation changes in the stress-strain state of rocks under the influence of rock pressure [26] and explosion.…”

“…In addition to engineering controls, administrative measures such as job rotation, exposure time limitation, and provision of quiet areas for rest breaks can contribute to reducing workers' overall noise exposure [10,15]. Personal protective equipment (PPE) like earplugs and earmuffs plays a vital role in shielding workers from excessive noise exposure [10,16]. However, PPE should be considered a last resort after implementing engineering and administrative controls [15,17].…”

“…For large-scale modeling, the finiteelement method [35] and the Box model [36,37] were widely applied to simulate flow and transport in former mining sites in the Ruhr coal-mining area last decades. Along with this, the finite-difference method [38] was also employed to perform hydrodynamic modeling mass and heat transport in mining sites [39,40]. In the case of hydraulically separated mining sites, an analytical method can be applied [41].…”
