Manganese Fluoride Nanoparticles Synthesized by Microwave Irradiation Using Ionic Liquid–Ethylene Glycol Mixtures: Room-Temperature Photoluminescence, Crystalline Phase, and Morphology

Abstract: The facile and rapid microwave-assisted method has been demonstrated to be effective in synthesizing manganese fluoride (MnF2) nanoparticles in binary mixtures of ethylene glycol and imidazolium-based ionic liquid containing fluorine, within a minute, without any surfactant and stabilizer. The effect of volume ratio of an ionic liquid in the binary mixtures with ethylene glycol and the length of the alkyl chain of imidazolium on the morphologies and crystalline structures of MnF2 was investigated. Two types of… Show more

“…For instance, Mn fluoride (MnF 2 ) NPs were synthesized by microwave irradiation within a minute using binary mixtures of ethylene glycol and an imidazoliumbased ionic liquid containing fluorine but without any surfactants and stabilizers. 48 Mn 2 O 3 NPs were synthesized using a fast microwave method, and the synthesized samples were subjected to further annealing at 550 °C. 49 A pulsed microwave synthesis of single-phase tetragonal Mn 3 O 4 NPs with an average size of about 30 nm, called hausmannite, under argon atmosphere was described by Bousquet−Berthelin and Stuerga.…”
