Manipulating polariton condensates by Rashba-Dresselhaus coupling at room temperature

Abstract: Spin-orbit coupling plays an important role in the spin Hall effect and topological insulators. Bose-Einstein condensates with spin-orbit coupling show remarkable quantum phase transition. In this work we control an exciton polariton condensate – a macroscopically coherent state of hybrid light and matter excitations – by virtue of the Rashba-Dresselhaus (RD) spin-orbit coupling. This is achieved in a liquid-crystal filled microcavity where CsPbBr3 perovskite microplates act as the gain material at room temper… Show more

“…In this regime, the photonic Hamiltonian can be written astrueĤϕRDfalse(boldk,normalθfalse)=trueĤϕfalse(boldk,normalθfalse)2normalαkytrueσ̂ywhere α is the strength of the RD SOC. Note that, in this low-energy regime, polariton and photon lasing was recently demonstrated ( 51 , 52 ).…”

“…Utilizing a molecular LC inserted into the microcavity, the refractive index of the cavity layer can be easily tuned by electrically controlling the LC molecular director. As a consequence, the anisotropic photonic or polariton mode can be manipulated [19,20].…”

“…The polariton dispersions are fitted by using a coupled oscillator model and the details are shown in Table S1. The electric field rotates the LC molecule director, so that the horizontally linearly polarized modes LP-1, LP1 and LP3 in Figure 2(a) can be tuned to higher energy, while the vertically linearly polarized modes LP0 and LP2 remain fixed [19,20].…”
