Manipulation of upconversion property and enhancement of sensitivity by tailoring the local structure

Abstract: Temperature sensing based on fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR) technique is one of the application fields of upconversion (UC) luminescence materials. 1-4 Lanthanide ions with two thermally coupled energy levels (TCLs), such as Er 3+ , Ho 3+ , and Tm 3+ , are widely adopted as FIR signals. 5-7 Among them, Er 3+ ion is the preferred ion due to its suitable energy gap (700-800 cm −1) of TCLs (2 H 11/2 / 4 S 3/2) and higher UC quantum efficiency. 8 Yb 3+ ion is often introduced as a sensitizer to enhance the UC … Show more

“…There are two nonequivalent oxygen sites: one is surrounded by two Y 3+ and two Ti 4+ , and the other is only surrounded by Y 3+ cations . So far, Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 nanocrystals or thin films have been synthesized by varied methods such as hydrothermal processes, solid-state reaction, sol–gel processes, and mechanical milling. Due to its excellent properties, Y 2 Ti 2 O 7 has been found to be a host material for oxygen ion conductors, optical emission, solid oxide fuel cells, and photovoltaic applications, an alternative material to immobilize nuclear solid waste, and a potential photocatalyst for water splitting. …”

“…16 In the literature, studies have focused on single/codoped dilanthanum titanate systems for solid-state lighting and optical thermometry. [17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] To the best of our knowledge, there are no extensive studies on upconversion white light emission for tri-doped La 2 Ti 2 O 7 .…”
