Mannheimia haemolytica and Bibersteinia trehalosi serotypes isolated from lambs with ovine respiratory complex in Spain

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Ovine respiratory complex causes significant economic losses in ovine production systems around the world. Mannhemia haemolytica and Bibersteinia trehalosi are the two most frequently isolated bacterial species. In this study, bacterial isolates of M. haemolytica and B. trehalosi isolated from dead lambs were serotyped by means of indirect haemagglutination, with the general aim to improve information in the preparation for candidate strains for relevant vaccines. In total, 84 isolates were serotyped… Show more

“…That is, these results suggest that the vaccine effectively reduced the occurrence of pneumonia caused by P. multocida in sheep and goats. In consent to our ndings higher seroprevalence of P. multocida serotype A (60%) was observed in sheep in north Ethiopia 26 and elsewhere in the world such as 83% in Spain 27 and 87.5% in Egypt 28 .…”

“…We con rmed the exposure of sheep and goats to serotypes of M. hawmolytica considered having higher pathogenicity such as A2 and A1, which were reported to cause mortality in young lambs at feedlots elsewhere in the world 27 . Three serotypes of M. haemolytica namely A1, A2 and A7 are identi ed in samples collected from sheep and goats.…”

“…It was recommended to administer the second dose 4 to 6 weeks after the first vaccination at the age of three weeks, when the risk of disease increased and to repeat the vaccination every six or twelve months, depending on the presence of risk factors for the disease. 3,31,[45][46][47] Although its effectiveness against respiratory system infections in sheep has not been proven, long-acting metaphylactic antibiotics such as oxytetracycline and tilmicosin can be applied. 31…”
