Mansfieldite (AlAsO4·2H2O): a new white pigment in Himalayan artwork

Abstract: This investigation reports the first ever identification of the mineral mansfieldite (AlAsO4·2H2O) as an artists’ white pigment. It was found in two 19th century thangkas that were ultimately traced to Chamdo, Tibet.
