Manufacture and characterisation of thin flat and curved auxetic foam sheets

Abstract: A series of gold(I) isonitrile complexes were prepared and converted to the corresponding diaminocarbene gold(I) complexes by reactions with primary and symmetrical secondary amines. Twelve crystal structure analyses of the gold(I) complexes could be obtained, in addition NMR studies allowed an analysis of the different diastereomers present in solution. In the gold‐catalyzed phenol synthesis these complexes were very successful as pre‐catalysts, reaching an unprecedented 3050 turnovers with a problematic subs… Show more

“…To exploit further the benefits of auxetic foams, very recently, heterogeneous strain distributions due to a complex microstructure (107) and fabrication of flat and curved auxetic foam sheets were reported by the authors in Ref. (108). Also, some other properties of auxetic PU foam such as the effect of solvents were reported by the authors in Ref.…”

“…Although there are various modifications introducing some improvements like continuous processes , as opposed to batch processes, manufacturing foams with curved or arbitrary shape which properties can be tailored or even considering auxetic foams as shape memory materials, which can transform to and from auxetic state , all of them are based on the principle that a deformed foam specimen subjected to compression and treated with a material softening agent will exhibit permanent deformation of ribs leading to creation of re‐entrant cell structures responsible for the auxetic behavior.…”

“…Since the publication of Lakes' seminal paper, different types of manufacturing processes have been designed to produce NPR open cell foams [17][18][19][20] . A shape memory effect can be also induced in negative Poisson's ratio foam specimens by applying a specific temperature profile, causing the dimensions of the NPR foam to return to their original values (conversion to returned phase).…”
