Manufacturing and Performance Evaluation of a Sugarcane Node Cutting Machine

Abstract: Sugarcane node cutting machine was manufactured and tested in the department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, El-Minia University, El-Minia, Egypt, to facilitate the process of cutting nodes that are used in transplanting sugarcane, the machine parts were designed using "SolidWorks" software, and then manufactured and constructed by using the low-cost available materials in local markets. The machine is used to separate the nodes from the sugarcane stalks and leave the internodes for industrial processes. … Show more

“…Mahmoud et al 24 developed a SBCM and reported that the maximum skipping rate, and MP was 11% and 36 bud/min. Researchers 17 manufactured and evaluated the performance of a SBCM and reported that the MP was 66.7 bud/min. Wang et al 34 designed and evaluated a SBCM based on machine vision in pre-seed mode and reported that the average cutting time of a single seed is about 0.7 s (85 bud/min).…”

“…The productivity of the SSBC was calculated according to 8 , 17 . As the SSBC was operated by an experienced worker, both number of buds cut and consumed time per whole SS were recorded, and then the SSBC productivity (bud/min) was calculated using Eq.…”

“…The sugarcane industry provides support for economic development and the increment of farmers' income. Mechanization and refinement of the whole sugarcane planting process is a trend of industrial development, but most sugarcane seed cutting machines in the world do not have an anti-injury function to prevent damage to buds during the automatic sugarcane seed cutting process, which restricts the development of the sugarcane industry [1][2][3][4]. Identifying the stem nodes in sugarcane is a crucial technology for advancing the intelligence and mechanization of the sugarcane industry.…”
