Many Parts of Pocho

Abstract: This chapter focuses on racial betrayal across José Antonio Villarreal’s life and work. It analyzes the overdetermined character of Villarreal’s semiautobiographical novel, Pocho (1959), into which protagonist and author are collapsed. Readings excavate two dynamic and interrelated fields of characterization: the queer figure of El Malinche who emblematizes assimilative desire and the masculinist figure of El Macho who has a revolutionary consciousness of colonial subjection. Pocho reveals rather than reproduc… Show more

“…Direction-Finding (DF) has drawn significant attention in the field of array signal processing as it is used in numerous applications, both military and civilian, including radar, navigation, tracking RF sources, rescue, wireless communications, emergency assistance cases, radio astronomy, army surveillance, and security services [1][2][3][4]. Observing and determining the directions of the incoming signals on the antenna array is the foundation of the radio monitoring systems.…”

“…• Classical DF methods (i) DF based on directional antennas: This setup is simple and inexpensive, and it uses a mechanical rotated directional antenna to provide great sensitivity, making it the simplest method of DF. Due to the antenna's limited rotation speed and directivity, this approach has some drawbacks that reduce the probability of intercept [1]. (ii) DF based on Watson-watt method: It has a compact size and a straightforward implementation.…”
