Mapping for the Field Sciences

Abstract

Mapping scientists at the University of Glasgow have achieved widespread recognition for expertise in and contributions to the survey, cartography and map production. Besides pure research in this field, they have carried out numerous mapping projects in collaboration with field scientists engaged in a wide range of research activities. In particular, they have used expertise to (1) carry out the detailed and highly accurate measurements of the topography and the specialized thematic information that was required for the areas covered by these projects; and (2) present results in the form of numerous multi-coloured maps generated in both digital and hard-copy form. The mapping outputs from these projects have made significant contributions to the scientific advances achieved.
