“…This shows a lack of formative definition and a lack of professional orientation in the two curricula (educator/musician) and that in Colombia, like other European countries, there is a dichotomy between the educator view and the artist view (Espeland, 2010). It is possible to explain this situation because, on the one hand, music education research in South America is in development (Hentschke & Martínez, 2004) and, on the other hand, the first program of higher education in music did not appear until after 1950, even though the Conservatory of the National University of Colombia was established in 1934 (Pérez, 2007), while the Atlantic University did not start a higher program in Music Education until 1965.…”
