Mapping the Geothermal System Using AMT and MT in the Mapamyum (QP) Field, Lake Manasarovar, Southwestern Tibet

Abstract: Southwestern Tibet plays a crucial role in the protection of the ecological environment and biodiversity of Southern Asia but lacks energy in terms of both power and fuel. The widely distributed geothermal resources in this region could be considered as potential alternative sources of power and heat. However, most of the known geothermal fields in Southwestern Tibet are poorly prospected and currently almost no geothermal energy is exploited. Here we present a case study mapping the Mapamyum (QP) geothermal f… Show more

“…China is currently the world's largest coal miner, and it is also the largest consumer of coal in the world [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The start of the 21st century was a golden era for the coal sector, and the rapid expansion of coal firms led to huge profits [7,8].…”

“…Moreover, MT can probe both shallow and deep areas up to several tens of kilometers. Because of the electrical conductivity sensitivity and the investigation depth, MT has been widely used in geothermal explorations [10][11][12]. MT data inversion using geological and geophysical constraints enables us not only to determine the general conductivity distribution in the studied area but also to delineate the geothermal reservoir and detect the cap layer [9].…”

“…When the rock is partially molten, its resistivity will decrease signi cantly. Generally, the resistivity range of 1-10 Ω•m is used as the basis for delineating the partially molten layer in the crust (Li et al, 2003;He et al, 2016;Zhang et al, 2020). When the rock is partially melted, its volume changes and the density decreases, which shows low gravity anomaly (Gu et al, 1980).…”
