Maqāṣid or Sharī‘a? Secularism, Islamic Reform, and Ethics in Modern Turkey

Abstract: T his chapter elaborates on the role of the maqāṣid al-sharī'a [the higher objectives of Islamic law] in the Islamic reform discussions and movements in modern Turkey.
