Marginal differences in health-related quality of life of diabetic patients with and without macrovascular comorbid conditions in the United States

Abstract: MaVCC is consistently associated with lower HRQoL for patients with diabetes in the United States. Results of this study are valuable for future comparative-effectiveness and cost-effectiveness analyses in diabetes.

“…This is not surprising given that the addition of insulin to the diabetes treatment regimen is indicative of more severe disease and, possibly, a larger treatment burden. The overall means for persons with diabetes were similar to estimates from previous studies of generic measures in persons with diabetes [7,13,31]. In both the unadjusted and adjusted analyses, The EQ-5D produced higher estimates of HRQoL than other preference-based utility measures.…”

“…10 HRQOL measures have been increasingly used to evaluate and monitor outcomes and the effectiveness of health care interventions on acute and chronic conditions. [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] In addition, HRQOL measures allow comparing the burden across health conditions or even geographic locations. A major nationwide initiative by the Department of Health and Human Services, known as Healthy People 2020, includes HRQOL as one of their four overarching goals.…”

“…Además Alex Z y colaboradores [19] identificaron que la presencia de complicaciones macro vasculares esta consistentemente asociada a menor calidad de vida en los pacientes con diabetes. Debido a que la evaluación de estas asociaciones no estaba dentro de los objetivos del presente estudio, no es posible identificar el comportamiento de estas variables en la población y si pueden o no tener asociación con el comportamiento evidenciado en la calidad de vida.…”
