Marinithermofilum abyssi gen. nov., sp. nov. and Desmospora profundinema sp. nov., isolated from a deep-sea sediment, and emended description of the genus Desmospora Yassin et al. 2009

Abstract: Two novel filamentous bacteria, strains SCSIO 11157T and SCSIO 11154T, were isolated from a deep-sea sediment sample. Strain SCSIO 11157T grew optimally at 55–60 °C, while strain SCSIO 11154T grew optimally at 40 °C. Both strains produced aerial and substrate mycelia. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences of strains SCSIO 11157T and SCSIO 11154T showed that the isolates were affiliated to the family Thermoactinomycetaceae. The two isolates contained ll-diaminopimelic acid as the cell-wall diamin… Show more

“…Meanwhile, Desmospora may represent a new member of the DTEase family of enzymes with highest substrate specificity toward d-psicose (Zhang et al, 2013). This genus was isolated from a deep-sea sediment and was recently detected in traditional fermentation of Chinese Fen-Maotai-flavored liquor in pottery jars (Zhang et al, 2015;.…”

“…Desmospora, Marinithermofilum, Hazenella) or environmental sources (e.g. Mechercharimyces, Lihuaxuella, Geothermomicrobium and Risungbinella) (Matsuo et al 2006;Yassin et al 2009;Yu et al 2012;Buss et al 2013;Zhou et al 2014;Kim et al 2015;Zhang et al 2015). Salient properties of the family Thermoactinomycetaceae include thermotolerant growth up to 60 °C, Gram positivity, non-acid fastness and formation of single spores that may be sessile or on simple sporophores with the structure and properties of endospores.…”

“…The family Thermoactinomycetaceae , which consisted of six genera Laceyella , Thermoflavimicrobium , Thermoactinomyces , Seinonella , Planifilum and Mechercharimyces and was affiliated to the order Bacillales , was proposed by Matsuo et al (2006). At the time of writing, this family comprised 18 genera and 32 recognized species, including the recently described genera Melghirimyces (Addou et al , 2012, 2013; Li et al , 2013), Polycladomyces (Tsubouchi et al , 2013), Hazenella (Buss et al , 2013), Geothermomicrobium (Zhou et al , 2014), Salinithrix (Zarparvar et al , 2014), Marinithermofilum (Zhang et al , 2015) and Novibacillus (Yang et al , 2015). Members of the family Thermoactinomycetaceae are aerobic, Gram-stain-positive and show filamentous growth.…”
