Marker assisted introgression of semi-dwarfing (sd1) gene in Katarni rice (Oryza sativa L.) landrace

Abstract: ‘Katarni Rice’ is a fine quality scented rice landrace of Bihar, India and has tremendous export potential and commercial value. This is a preferred rice in the state due to its flavour, palatability and popcorn like essence before and after cooking. But its area has been shrunken drastically in recent years due to its low yielding (25–30 Q/ha) ability caused due tall and week stature and lodging tendency at maturity. To overcome this problem, marker assisted introgression of semi-dwarfing (sd1) gene from semi… Show more

“…Microsatellite markers have been extensively used for molecular variability assessment, mapping of genes/QTLs, marker‐assisted selection, marker‐assisted recurrent selection, and allele mining (Ganie et al., 2014; M. Kumar et al., 2022; Nihad et al., 2022; Park et al., 2020; A. K. Singh et al., 2011). We used 48 HvSSR markers for molecular analysis of 96 aromatic rices and detected 528 alleles with 11.0 alleles per SSR locus.…”

“…The microsatellite markers have been extensively used for the assessment of molecular variability, mapping of genes and localization of QTLs in mapping populations, breeding lines, improved cultivars and germplasm of cultivated and wild rices. These DNA-based co-dominant markers have also been used widely for marker assisted selection, marker assisted recurrent selection and for allele mining (Singh et al 2011;Ganie et al 2014;Park et al 2020;Kumar et al 2022;Nihad et al 2022). In the present study, we have used 48 HvSSR markers On the contrary, Thomson et al (2007) detected 13.0 alleles per locus in a molecular study of 246 Indonesian landraces and 63 Indonesian improved cultivars using 30 fluorescently-labeled SSR markers.…”

“…Riaz et al (2023) develop high yielding basmati advance lines with good quality attributes through a marker-assisted selection. Similar experiment was performed byKumar et al (2022) in Katarni rice to validate the presence of semi-dwar sm and fragrance by using gene speci c markers for the respective trait.…”
