Market access and regional dispersion of human capital accumulation in Turkey

Abstract: Building on early advances in development economics, the theoretical construct of new economic geography asserts that geography plays a crucial role in educational human capital accumulation. Based on this expectation, this study investigates the impact of market access on provincial human capital accumulation in Turkey. Results indicate that market access matters for understanding why some regions lag behind others in terms of average years of schooling. Our results are robust to the inclusion of spatial mech… Show more

“…These estimated results confirm that comarcas located in the West of Galicia (core locations) benefit more from agglomeration economies than those located in the East (periphery locations) and therefore are more profitable areas offering higher wages that are beneficial for individuals to increase their human capital levels in these locations. These empirical results are in line with previous empirical estimations (see Diebolt and Hippe 2018, Karahasan and Bilgel, 2020, Karahasan and López-Bazo 2013, Lopez-Rodríguez et al 2007. These results are a the starting point to corroborate the fractal dimension phenomenon of the market potential-human capital link Note: Robust standard errors for Huber-White heteroskedasticity in parentheses.…”

“…Load forecast variation, unscheduled group power outages, the unpredictability of renewable energy, grid constraints, etc., all contribute to a deficiency of power resources in China’s direct electricity trading market. The lack of an effective market access mechanism between medium- and long-term electricity consumption and real-time energy balance [ 23 ] is essential in implementing long-term direct trade contracts. The monthly energy adjustment mechanism can meet the additional power demand by organizing the most economical generation dispatch strategy and reducing energy consumption per a predetermined dispatch sequence.…”
