Masculinidade, Violência E Espaço Público: Notas Etnográficas Sobre O Bairro Brasil Da Praia (Cabo Verde)

Abstract: Based on ethnography carried out in Brasil neighbourhood in Praia (Cape Verde), in this article I argue that the thugs (young gang members) are not a social or historical discontinuity. They are rather a paroxistic expression of features of local culture, of the neighbourhood identity, and of the hegemonic masculinity.
