Those alkaloids with identical substituents in the A, C and D rings (15)(16)(17)(18)(19)(20)(21)(22)(23)(24), differing only in having cis or trans configurations of the BID ring junctions, have identical MS. Again, recourse to 1H NMR or co-chromatography with reference compounds is required. Nevertheless, MS is invaluable in the identification of the rhoeadine series and readily distinguishes the differing substituents in the A C and D rings (for a previous discussion see [13]).…”
