Abstract: Marine copepods, the most abundant animals in the global ocean, imprint their surrounding waters with chemical cues, called copepodamides. Copepodamides induce defensive traits such as toxin production, bioluminescence, and colony size plasticity in a variety of marine phytoplankton.
