“…As in our case, ~20% of cases of hemoptysis 9 , 10 , remain without an aetiological diagnosis even after bronchoscopy and chest CT, leading to the classification of the case as idiopathic or cryptogenic hemoptysis 5 , 6 , 9 .…”

“…In patients who are unsuitable surgical candidates, who refuse surgical treatment, or for whom appropriate medical therapy will ultimately lead to a cure, control of the hemorrhage may be achieved by various other options. These include cold saline solution lavage via bronchoscopy, 7,8 endobronchial balloon tamponade with or without endobronchial instillation of epinephrine, 9,10 instillation of thrombin or fibrinogen-thrombin infusions endobronchially via fiberoptic bronchoscopy, 11 laser photocoagulation, 12 radiotherapy, 13 or bronchial artery embolization. 14,15 Selection of the modality of treatment will be determined by the underlying etiology for the hemoptysis and the available expertise at the center to which the patient presents.…”

“…However, bronchial artery embolization was reported in the literature by Remy et al29 in 1973 with good results. Other maneuvers to control the hemoptysis are bronchoscopic cold saline lavage, endotracheal instillation of fibrinogen thrombin, and radiotherapy and laser photocoagulation30,31. In vitro trials have shown that actinomycosis is susceptible to many antibiotics.…”
