Master Motor Map (MMM) — Framework and toolkit for capturing, representing, and reproducing human motion on humanoid robots

Abstract: We present an extended version of our work on the design and implementation of a reference model of the human body, the Master Motor Map (MMM) which should serve as a unifying framework for capturing human motions, their representation in standard data structures and formats as well as their reproduction on humanoid robots. The MMM combines the definition of a comprehensive kinematics and dynamics model of the human body with 104 DoF including hands and feet with procedures and tools for unified capturing of h… Show more

“…Most notably these are the Phobos project 5 and the RobotEditor of the OpenGrasp simulation suite (León et al, 2010; Terlemez et al, 2014). The RobotEditor project was finally chosen as the basis of the Robot Designer after an evaluation with competing projects.…”

“…The framework includes a range of tools, amongst other 3D visualizer that can be used to inspect MMM motion data. Terlemez et al [27] discuss the data format and the available tools in depth.…”

“…Virtual markers that match the markers placed on the subject are then added to the MMM reference model at the corresponding locations. One converter is already provided by the MMM framework for the reconstruction of human motion from motion capture [1]. This converter uses a framewise gradientbased optimization approach based on the Jacobian matrix of the MMM kinematics to fit the model pose and is compared to the new approach proposed in this paper in Sec.…”

“…The considered estimation task poses an additional challenge for Kalman filters: a (nonlinear) Kalman filter, by design, only estimates unconstrained quantities. That is, directly estimating θ k with a Kalman filter will violate the constraints (1). Recall that the estimate of a Kalman filter is represented by a mean vector and a covariance matrix.…”
