Mastzellreiches Aluminiumgranulom

Abstract: Persistent subcutaneous nodules arise at the injection sites of aluminium hydroxide-absorbed hyposensitization solutions. We present a hitherto unreported phenomenon in aluminium granuloma. Two years after specific immunotherapy, a patient suffered increasingly from urticaria. Besides inflammatory infiltrates surrounding necrotic areas, microscopy of the specimen revealed numerous mast cells surrounding the necrotic tissue areas. The histological phenomenon of increased mast cell populations in aluminium granu… Show more

“…While adverse reactions in individuals receiving allergy immunotherapy have been reported in the scientific and medical literature these reports are relatively few and far between [16,17]. Reactions include; foreign body granulomas [18], urticaria [19], sub-cutaneous sarcoidosis [20], progressive circumscribed sclerosis [21], sub-cutaneous nodules [22] and cutaneous-sub-cutaneous pseudolymphoma [23]. The actual incidence of adverse events such as the aforementioned is unknown and while the European Medicines Agency (EMA) lists as many as 32 adverse reactions to immunotherapy ranging from discolouration of the skin to encephalopathy their information cannot be verified as the data were not taken from an openly available peer-reviewed resource [24].…”

“…After being injected, those microparticles, nanoparticles and aggregates can stay around the injection site forming swellings and granulomas [17]. But they can also be carried by the blood circulation, escaping any attempt to guess what will be their final destination.…”

“…In an investigation carried out for a German anatomical pathology institute we analyzed a tissue with a granuloma that was formed in a child's arm short after the injection of a vaccine [19]. In that tissue we found many debris containing aluminium.…”
