Matching Based Two-Timescale Resource Allocation for Cooperative D2D Communication

Abstract: We consider a cooperative device-to-device (D2D) communication system, where the D2D transmitters (DTs) act as relays to assist cellular users (CUs) in exchange for the opportunities to use the licensed spectrum. To reduce the overhead, we propose a novel two-timescale resource allocation scheme, in which the pairing between CUs and D2D pairs is decided at a long timescale and time allocation factor for CU and D2D pair is determined at a short timescale. Specifically, to characterize the long-term payoff of ea… Show more

“…Existing studies mainly focus on D2D sidelink communication in in-coverage scenarios to reduce the network burden, improve the spectrum efficiency, and energy efficiency [6]- [10], as well as improve cellular coverage through multihop D2D communication [11], [12]. These studies propose different schemes for joint scheduling and resource allocation [6]- [8], interference-aware resource allocation [9], and distributed power control [10] for D2D sidelink communication.…”

“…Thus, 5G has to adopt the essential characteristic of device‐to‐device (D2D) communication that does not relay its data via the BS; instead, it uses proximity services for transmitting and receiving the data. As a result, it offers a better user experience in terms of overall system capacity, network throughput, and reliability to D2D mobile users (DMUs) 2,3 …”

“…The mode selection allows the DUs to switch among an underlay, overlay, or cooperative relay mode. A two-timescale resource allocation scheme was developed in [13] to achieve a win-win situation in a D2D network, where the CUs are far away from the BS and the DUs can serve as relays to assist the CUs. The equipment cost and self-interference of the relays were considered.…”
