Material Properties of Various Cast Aluminum Alloys Made Using a Heated Mold Continuous Casting Technique with and without Ultrasonic Vibration

Abstract: This work was carried out to develop high-quality cast aluminum alloys using a new casting technology. For this purpose, commercial Al alloys were created by heated mold continuous casting (HMC) with ultrasonic vibration (UV). With the HMC process, the grain size and the crystal orientation of the Al alloys were controlled, i.e., fine grains with a uniformly organized lattice formation. In addition, an attempt was made to modify the microstructural formation by cavitation. These microstructural characteristics… Show more

“…Aluminum alloy has been widely used in the automobile industry because of its light weight and mechanical properties [5]. In the experiment, the specimen of the ring (FC230) is cast iron and the aluminum alloy is the plate of AC8A which highly contains Si as shown in Table 1, so that the AC8A has high wear resistance and low thermal expansion in high temperature [6]. As shown in Table 2, the surface texture is applied on the surface of AC8A through machining a great amount of micro concaving areas.…”

“…Al ADC12 or Al-Si-Cu alloy are widely used in automotive parts due to their high mechanical properties, good cast ability, high productivity, corrosion resistance, ductile, low density and high strength [1] . Reinforcing ADC12 with ceramic particle nano-SiC could considerably improve their mechanical properties.…”

“…In some works, we can even find the improvement of physical and mechanical properties simultaneously, e.g., Okayasu et al showed the effect of ultrasonic vibration on Al casting alloys and pointed out that the electric conductivity was about 10% higher compared to wrought Al alloy, while at the same time the treatment improved the mechanical properties of the Al casting alloy [ 21 ].…”
