Materials Established for Enantioselective Release of Chiral Compounds

Abstract: The importance of chiral compounds has been widely recognized. Enantioselectively controlled release of the desired enantiomer from a racemate while retarding the other isomer provides a novel route toward practical applications of biologically chiral molecules. Such processes may maximize the efficacy while minimizing the dosage and frequency of chiral compounds. So far, exciting achievements have been made in enantioselective release (ESR), which can be classified into two main groups according to the essent… Show more

“…Currently, 50% of the leading commercial drugs are sold as single enantiomer compounds . Other examples include in agrochemical industry, the R‐enantiomer of ipconazole (fungicide) demonstrates a greater fungicidal activity than the counter enantiomer, whereas S‐enantiomer shows a higher plant growth regulating ability . In a relatively small number of instances, both enantiomers are desired products such as mandelic acid where the (S)‐form is used as an intermediate in pharmaceutical synthesis and the (R)‐form is utilized in skin treatment .…”

“…Our next target is thus to take the established SSGPP strategy for preparing the kind of core/shell particles with diameters of 5–10 µm, which will be further examined as chiral stationary phases in HPLC. Besides, the novel core/shell hybrid particles also can be explored as carriers for enantio‐differentiating chiral drug release . We will report the investigations in our future articles.…”

“…It is important to highlight that the efficacy of insecticide molecules may be linked to their stereochemistries. In recent decades, the synthesis of enantiomerically pure compounds has gained prominence mainly in the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries . Thus, in this study we describe the synthesis of 14 chiral amides and assess the toxicity of these molecules against R. dominica and their phytotoxicity to wheat ( Triticum sativum ).…”
