Maternal and Neonatal Outcomes of Operative Vaginal Deliveries at a Single Tertiary Center

Abstract: Objectives: Our study sought to assess the maternal and neonatal outcomes of operative vaginal deliveries (OVDs) at Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH). We assessed the proportion of OVDs along with the proportion of maternal and neonatal outcomes of kiwi OmniCup vacuum, metal cup vacuum, and forceps deliveries. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at SQUH from June 2015 to March 2018. The hospital information system was utilized to obtain records … Show more

“…This trend was consistent with findings from a study conducted in Oman, where Kiwi was also the preferred instrument. 6 In contrast, a study conducted at Singapore General Hospital reported a similar prevalence of both forceps and vacuum extractors for OVD cases. 9 These variations in instrument preference highlight the influence of local practices and regional preferences on the choice of instruments for OVD.…”

“…This rate is significantly higher compared with a study conducted in Oman, where only 26.8% of patients received episiotomy. 6 Furthermore, among the patients who underwent instrumental delivery, a total of 13 patients (4.7%) experienced third-degree perineal tears, with the majority of these tears occurring in cases involving the metal cup instrument (approximately 77%). This finding is not consistent with a study conducted at the University of Miami, which demonstrated a higher incidence of third and fourth perineal lacerations in forceps deliveries (20.0%) compared with vacuum deliveries (10.0%).…”

“…Without attending to these Public Health, Nutrition, and Dietetics design issues beforehand, the conclusions drawn may be seen as weak and unimpressive and, consequently, will fail to adequately address the overall research problem. Any sound Public Health, Nutrition and Dietetics design process will involve the following: identify the research problem clearly and justify its selection, review previously published literature associated with the problem area, clearly and explicitly specify hypotheses or research questions central to the problem selected, effectively describe the data which will be necessary for an adequate test of the hypotheses and explain how such data will be obtained, and describe the methods of analysis which will be applied to the data in determining whether or not the hypotheses are true or false (14).…”

“…Training Workshop on Research Proposal Writing is a training program aimed at helping researchers, faculty and academics develop the ability to write effective research proposals. This program is designed with the main aim of providing participants with an in-depth understanding of various key aspects in writing research proposals, which include problem formulation, determining relevant theoretical frameworks, selecting appropriate research methods, and planning appropriate budgets (Al-Riyami, 2008;Gurat et al, 2018). This kind of training also provides opportunities for participants to interact with instructors who are experienced in writing research proposals.…”
