“…It is increasingly clear that maternal inflammatory responses have a strong association with poor pregnancy outcomes. Although pro-inflammatory cytokines are the most broadly understood for their significant effects on birth outcomes, the nuanced relationship with anti-inflammatory cytokines provides a mechanism as biomarkers for preterm birth and other complications [27]. Given the associations between pregnancy-specific anxiety and poor birth outcomes, it is critical to assess the longitudinal changes in these markers both independently and in relation to psychosocial measures of anxiety as well as association with interventions focused on maternal anxiety and depression.…”
