“…CNMs were more likely to advocate the use of social and psychological support (a supportive presence) during labor, and to promote unrestricted mother‐infant contact following delivery. The benefit of these approaches, summarized by Chalmers, has also been reported in other recent research which suggests that continuous support during labor has a positive effect on birth outcome including reducing the augmentation of labor and the frequency of cesarean section (9–16).
