“…Although there are numerous studies examining the determinants for mothers’ return to the labor market in Germany (e.g., Blossfeld, Drobnič, & Rohwer, 2001; Drasch, 2013; Elsas, Wölfel, & Heineck, 2013; Hoherz, 2014; Jacob & Kleinert, 2014), only very few of them look at the role the partner plays in women’s reentry into employment (Blossfeld et al, 2001; Hoherz, 2014; Jacob & Kleinert, 2014). These last few studies focus on the effects of a partner’s labor market or financial resources, however, and there are virtually no studies to date—to the best of the author’s knowledge—that examine partners’ social support for women’s labor market reentry (for an exception, see Höhne, 2007, but here, too, support in the empirical analysis is only measured indirectly through a partner’s resources).…”

“…Among East German mothers, maternal employment does not depend on the income of the partner. Focusing on the re-entry to work after childbirth, Hoherz (2014) demonstrates that men's resources have a significant impact on the decision to return to part-time work. She argues that on the one hand, partners with a larger income provide less financial motivation to return to the labor market, but that on the other hand, husbands with greater financial resources generally exercise more power within the family and feel less obliged to do housework or take on childcare responsibilities.…”
