Abstract:The cochlea plays a crucial role in sound perception. It acts as a frequency analyzer and amplifier of lowfrequency sounds. The mechanisms underlying these functions are not fully understood, as its anatomical position as well as its active nonlinear behavior can be altered by invasive observation. The article therefore focuses on improving our understanding of cochlear function by considering different approaches to modeling its mechanics, which is intended to aid in the interpretation of experimental observa… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
