Mathematical-physical model of the streamer in nonuniform fields

Abstract: The initial electron avalanche created in the high nonuniform fields near an anode leaves behind it a space charge of positive ions that enhance the field farther away from the anode and, hence, produce the necessary conditions for successive electron avalanches to produce the streamer. A mathematical model of these processes has been derived and the minimum anode voltage required to satisfy these equations has been computed for different geometrical parameters. This streamer onset voltage agrees well with mea… Show more

“…According to the streamer theory [15,16], the streamer starts at a position near the electrode where the ionization coefficient is equal to the adhesion coefficient under a positive DC voltage. In the development of an electron avalanche moving to the positive electrode, the charge of the head of the electron avalanche increases.…”

“…21,22 An unified expression for evaluating the positive dc corona onset can be achieved by introducing a geometric factor. [23][24][25] The effective photon wavelength responsible for photoionization also can be considered based on the classic corona onset criterion.…”

“…Corona discharge phenomena have been investigated by many researchers for many years, and a large amount of useful data has been accumulated so far. In this paper, the experimental values of positive DC corona onset voltage of rod‐plane air gaps with different radiuses and gap lengths are extracted from [2325], and used as samples for the prediction study by the proposed method. These experimental values were obtained by the corona tests conducted in the normal room air.…”
