Matrix Effect Assessment of an Ion Chromatographic Method to Determine Inorganic Anions in Wastewater

Abstract: Inorganic anion monitoring is essential for bioreactor operation and is related for pollution control or energy and products recovery. However, there is a lack of studies validating methods for inorganic anions analyses in conditions compatible to those in bioreactor operations treating different types of wastewater. This paper provides a systematic statistical study and matrix-effect assessment for sugarcane vinasse, leachate, sewage and synthetic sewage. Sample preparation consisted of only a filtration and … Show more

“…The eluent was composed of a solution of sodium carbonate (4.5 mmol L −1 ) and sodium bicarbonate (0.5 mmol L −1 ). 33 The total solids (TS) and total volatile solids (TVS) content of the inoculum and of the biomass attached to the polyurethane foams were determined according to the method 2540 from APHA. 34 By the end of experiment, the TS and TVS were analyzed.…”

“…Alkalinity was monitored by following (DiLallo & Albertson, 1961)modified by (Ripley et al, 1986). NO2 --N and NO3 --N were determined according to (Costa et al, 2018). Two methods were applied to quantify NH4 + -N: the flow injection analysis (FIA) during Stages 1 and 2 and by Ion Chromatography in Stages 3 and 4.…”

“…Isocratic elution (at a flow rate of1.0 mL. min −1 ) was used, and an analytical grade (> 99%) sodium carbonate (Aldrich) and sodium hydrogen carbonate (Sigma-Aldrich_Steinheim, Germany) were diluted in ultra-purified water to prepare the eluent at a concentration of 4.5 and 0.8 mM, respectively [13]. Sulfide concentration was determined by the colorimetric method on HACH DR-2800 ® spectrophotometers using a Sulfide Analysis Kit (Reagents Code 1816-32 and 1877-32).…”
