Matter power spectrum of light freeze-in dark matter: With or without self-interaction

Abstract: We study the free-streaming effect in a light freeze-in dark matter model. Naturally in dark sector one can find dark matter related coupling, and such coupling may induce dark matter self-scattering. In case that such scattering is subdominant the dark matter partition function is not thermal but determined by the freeze-in process, yet its high momentum side is generally also Boltzmann suppressed. We show that the resultant matter power spectrum is very similar to a warm dark matter one in shape. Matching to… Show more

“…These DM candidates are known as feebly interacting massive particles (FIMPs). Although FIMP scenarios are, generically, more difficult to test due to the smallness of the couplings, some can be probed through colliders [10][11][12][13][14][15], direct [14,[16][17][18][19][20][21][22] and indirect [23][24][25] detection searches, as well as astrophysical/cosmological observations [13,[19][20][21]26].…”

“…32,33,34,35 Since the first introduction of Self Interactions in WDM 36 , it was realized that a combined model could provide interesting modifications in their dynamics. Indeed, Self Interactions do not only have an effect during structure formation, but also in perturbation evolution 37,38 and DM production. 12,39 This last point was studied in the past in the context of νMSM and, in particular, as mentioned in reference, 40 the phenomenon of mediator decay can significantly relax the parameter space of the model.…”

“…Self Interactions have already been found to have significant effects in the evolution of linear cosmological perturbations. 36,37,38 In particular, the effects of these interactions can be realized in the power spectrum and, in the realm of WDM, it can lead to interesting scenarios such as non relativistic self decoupling (a.k.a. late kinetic decoupling).…”
