MBSE for Satellite Communication System Architecting

Abstract: The risk of failure for aerospace missions can be reduced if architects model the product in a systematic way and make decisions for physical implementation based on stakeholder needs. Satellite communication system architecting should take one of its dominating elements, the communication satellite, into account for consistent modeling during the whole product lifecycle. Model-based system engineering (MBSE) serves as a useful tool for system modeling activities and connections with manufacturing. In this pap… Show more

“…1) An investigation of various MBSE methodologies (as in [10]) and modeling tools (as in [23]) will be helpful to find the best approach for civil aircraft scaled demonstrators. For future work, we will apply MBSE into various demonstrators and compare the effectiveness of different tools and methods.…”

“…Reference [9] presents an MBSE framework using an object-process methodology and incorporating the framework into a model-based design domain for landing gears with dynamic landing constrains. Reusable logical architecture models of satellite communication system is constructed in [10] after a comprehensive investigation of various methodologies. The models have detailed parametric constrains for model-based trade-off analysis.…”

“…Die Schaffung einer ganzheitlichen Sichtweise auf die jeweilige Problemstellung und eine klare und eindeutige Terminologie spielen bei den betrachteten Arbeiten eine wichtige Rolle. Die Arbeiten [1], [19], [20], [21] und [22] [13] und [25] und den in der Abbildung 5 aufgelisteten Arbeiten die Ergebnisse der Arbeiten [26] und [27] herangezogen. Die in [27]…”

“…e most commonly used modeling language in MBSE is the system modeling language (SysML), a general-purpose graphical modeling language that supports analysis, specification, design, verification, and validation of complex systems [11,16], and has been adopted by many MBSE projects [1,9,12,13,17]. Despite the fact that it is accepted by the Object Management Organization as a standard modeling language, SysML is not easy to adapt for system engineers who have not been exposed to object-oriented concepts because, like the unified modeling language (UML), it emphasizes familiarity with these concepts.…”
