Player performance evaluation is a challenging problem with multiple dimensions. Football (soccer) is the largest sports industry in terms of monetary value and it is paramount that teams can assess the performance of players for both financial and operational reasons. However, this is a difficult task, not only because performance differs from position to position, but also it is based on competition, time played and team play-styles. Because of this, raw player statistics are not comparable across players and must be processed to facilitate a fair performance evaluation. Furthermore, teams may have different requirements and a generic player performance evaluation does not directly serve the particular expectations of different clubs. In this study, we provide a generic framework for estimating player performance and performing player-fit-to-criteria assessment, under different objectives, for left and right backs from competitions worldwide. The results show that the players who have ranked high have increased their transfer values and they have moved to suitable teams. Global nature of the proposed methodology expands the analyzed player pool, facilitating the search for outstanding players from all available competitions.

The aim of this paper is to present the use of an innovative approach based on MCDM methods as the main component of a consumer Decision Support System (DSS) by recommending the most suitable products among a given set of alternatives. This system provides a reliable recommendation to the consumer in the form of a compromise ranking constructed from the five MCDM methods: the hybrid approach TOPSIS-COMET, COCOSO, EDAS, MAIRCA, and MABAC. Each of the methods used contributes significantly to the final compromise ranking built with the Copeland strategy. Chosen MCDM methods were combined with the objective CRITIC weighting method, and their performance was presented on the illustrative example of choosing the most suitable mobile phone. A sensitivity analysis involving the rw and WS correlation coefficients was performed to determine the match between the compromise ranking of the candidates and the rankings provided by each MCDM method. Sensitivity analysis demonstrated that all investigated compromise candidate rankings show high convergence with the rankings provided by the particular MCDM methods. Thus, the performed study proved that the proposed approach shows high potential to be successfully used as a central component of DSS for recommending the most suitable product. Such DSS could be a universal and future-proof solution for e-commerce sites and websites, providing advanced product comparison capabilities in delivering a recommendation to the user as a final ranking of alternatives.

The potential of a swimmer can be exploited to the full if an individual approach is applied to training early enough. In the initial stage of a competitor's career, it's hard to say whether the person will reach the world level. It is influenced by factors related to physical and mental characteristics, swimming technique or the current skills level of the athlete. Some of them cannot be improved by swimmers; however, a few of these factors can be affected and upgraded by working on them. The data from 30 swimmers were collected in the research. Then, adopting the COMET method, the values of attributes characteristic for the athletes were entered into the proposed model to determine the predispositions of each of them. The applied method proved to be effective in assessing the parameters of competitors, and at the same time, it is a modern approach free of the rank reversal phenomenon. In addition, the model obtained allows for manipulation of input data to check how the change of a given criterion will affect the overall rating. The model developed is forward-looking. The results are satisfactory but can be improved to analyse somatic traits better and achieve more accurate predictions.
