MCI-plus: leichte kognitive Beeinträchtigung mit rascher Progredienz

Abstract: Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is a prevalent problem in the elderly and many patients show predictors of rapid cognitive decline ("MCI-plus"). MCI-plus represents a syndrome with growing importance in an ageing society, which will increasingly affect primary medicine and most other clinical specialties. We will have to face the dilemma of fast progress in the field of neurodiagnostics with innovative therapeutic strategies lagging behind. Psychological and medical co-morbidity in MCI-plus will therefore offe… Show more

“…Both developed dementia, however, not all individuals with a worse CDT score and not all MCI patients. Regarding the MCI concept, efforts were made to improve the predictive value, especially by inclusion and enhancement of other early markers [36,37]. As regards the CDT, it would also be worthwhile to improve its predictive value, because the CDT meets all criteria of a good screening instrument [12]: it is mostly independent of culture, language and education and has sufficient inter-rater and test-retest reliability.…”

“…T he number of persons affected by dementia is increasing. Therefore, the early detection of possible precursors of dementia and the diagnosis and treatment of modifiable risk factors are assuming increasing importance (1). A central part is played by the concept of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) (Box 1), because in many cases MCI, particularly the amnestic form (affecting memory), represents an early stage of Alzheimer-type dementia.…”
