MCM-41 mesoporous silica: a highly efficient and recoverable catalyst for rapid synthesis of α-aminonitriles and imines

Abstract: In this work, pure MCM-41 mesoporous silica with active mesoporous sites has been successfully applied, as a highly efficient and recoverable catalyst, for the rapid and convenient synthesis of α-aminonitriles and imines. Various imines, as the intermediate of the Strecker reaction, were simply prepared from condensation of a wide range of aldehydes and amines in the presence of low loading of MCM-41 mesoporous silica under solvent-free conditions at room temperature in high to quantitative yields. Furthermore… Show more

“…Some GA derivatives such as methyl, propyl, octyl and dodecyl gallates are widely used in food manufacturing as antioxidants, as well as in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Previous studies have shown that these compounds have potent therapeutic properties, including antitumoral, antimicrobial and antiviral, as well as being potent antioxidants, acting as scavengers of reactive oxygen species …”

“…Some of these problems could be solved by employing an appropriate catalytic support . MCM‐41, with a significant surface area and mesoporous structure, is a good candidate for support that could be used in several cycles of reaction because of its thermal and mechanical stability . Incorporation of some specific elements into the structure of MCM‐41 can influence its acidity, pore size, hydrophobicity, and stability .…”

“…[61][62] As another example, mesoporous MCM-41 materials have recently been successfully applied as catalyst for the three-component Strecker reaction. 63 Within this background, the main objective of the present study is to investigate, using the ReaxFF MD simulation approach, whether silica nanopores could promote the CO2 methanation reaction (Reaction 1) at conditions consistent with those in our prior RxMC simulations. 32 This investigation is motivated by the observation that the equilibrium composition of systems that undergo Reaction (1) is expected to favour CH4 production at low T, but due to the significant kinetic limitations of the eight-electron reduction of CO2 to CH4, 64 active catalysts are required for conducting such reaction industrially at acceptable rates and yields.…”
