Abstract:Physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) can be used to solve partial differential equations (PDEs) and identify hidden variables by incorporating the governing equations into neural network training. In this study, we apply PINNs to the assimilation of mean flow data and investigate the method's ability to identify inaccessible variables and closure terms from sparse data. Using high-fidelity large-eddy simulation (LES) data and particle image velocimetry (PIV) measured mean fields, we show that PINNs are sui… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
