Measurement and QCD analysis of double-differential inclusive jet cross sections in proton-proton collisions at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV

Abstract: A measurement of the inclusive jet production in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at $$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 13 TeV is presented. The double-differential cross sections are measured as a function of the jet transverse momentum pT and the absolute jet rapidity |y|. The anti-kT clustering algorithm is used with distance parameter of 0.4 (0.7) in a phase space region with jet pT from 97 GeV up to 3.1 TeV and |y| < 2.0. Data collected with… Show more

“…Even though the predictions for the total jet cross section exhibit smaller scale uncertainties and smaller NNLO K-factors for R = 0.4 than for R = 0.7 for the recommended scale µ = ĤT , non-perturbative corrections have to be considered as well for jet transverse momenta as small as 100 GeV. For the cone radius R = 0.4 the non-perturbative correction is close to unity, while for R = 0.7 it is of the order of 8% [34,35]. The uncertainties on these corrections, however, are larger for the small cone size.…”

“…the CMS Collaboration, the total jet cross section for centre-of-mass energies of 2.76, 7, 8, and 13 TeV is derived from double-differential measurements for anti-k T jets with R = 0.7 [30,33,35,48] by summing the cross sections in the bins of the common fiducial phase space of p jet T > 97 GeV and |y jet | < 2.0. The experimental uncertainties are obtained by propagating each uncertainty component individually and accounting for correlations.…”

“…Simultaneous determination of the Wilson coefficients of the SMEFT and of the proton PDFs has been pioneered in several recent studies performed by both theorists and experimentalists [61][62][63][64][65][66]. These studies reveal that, while with current DIS and Drell-Yan data the interplay is already nonnegligible but can be kept under control, once High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) data are considered, neglecting the PDF interplay could potentially miss new physics manifestations or misinterpret them.…”

“…In these proceedings, we describe the recently published measurements at 13 TeV by the CMS Collaboration [6,7] for two values of the 𝑅 parameter of the anti-𝑘 T clustering algorithm [8,9]. We focus on the analysis of the experimental data and emphasise differences with respect to a previous measurement at 8 TeV [10], but leave the QCD interpretation to the dedicated proceedings of the same conference.…”
