Measurement of cankers on small woody stems

Abstract: Presents a method and provides a table of numerical values for quickly determining the extent of a stem's circumference affected by a canker when stem is too small for a direct measurement. Two measurements are taken with an inside and outside vernier caliper: 1. canker width, and 2. diameter of the stem at the midpoint of the canker location. The most common method used in canker research to report canker development on tree stems is to state the percent of inoculated stems that develop cankers (e. g.
