Abstract:The deceleration torque during spindown of a disk is measured across a range of air pressures on three aluminum disks. The diameters of the disk are 0.15, 0.17, and 0.21 m; the range of pressures is 0.71 Pa to atmospheric pressure; and the angular velocities range approximately from 400 to 3300 rpm. The results are compared to computational fluid dynamics for the continuum flow regime and analytical results for the free molecular flow regime. The torque is nondimensionalized using dynamic viscosity of air, ins… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
